Hi,

I'm having trouble translating the text below into English:

ST: Churchill nektet å gi opp krigen mot Tyskland på tross av bortfallet av sin
viktigste allierte,

Would I be right with the following translation:

Churchill refused to give up the war against Germany in spite of the loss of his
most important ally,

I'm having particular trouble with bortfallet and allierte.

Thanks very much

D

Well, alierte means ally.
But in this text, I think it whould be right if you use "allied"

Bortfallet, I haven't heard about that word! Still, I'm norwegian :$

ET BORTFALL = DISAPPEARANCE, DROPPING (of)

Å BORTFALLE = DISAPPEAR, BE DROPPED

:))

OK great.

To use drop/disappearance would appear unnatural in Eng so loss is a good
alternative.

I don't think allied would work here though...

Thanks anyway:)
