[bortfallet and allierte] |
Hi, I'm having trouble translating the text below into English: ST: Churchill nektet å gi opp krigen mot Tyskland på tross av bortfallet av sin viktigste allierte, Would I be right with the following translation: Churchill refused to give up the war against Germany in spite of the loss of his most important ally, I'm having particular trouble with bortfallet and allierte. Thanks very much D Reply #1 From: David.S Date: 31/08/2006-19:15 Well, alierte means ally. But in this text, I think it whould be right if you use "allied" Bortfallet, I haven't heard about that word! Still, I'm norwegian :$ Reply #2 From: eva Date: 01/09/2006-09:36 ET BORTFALL = DISAPPEARANCE, DROPPING (of) Å BORTFALLE = DISAPPEAR, BE DROPPED :)) Reply #3 From: Davies Date: 01/09/2006-19:16 OK great. To use drop/disappearance would appear unnatural in Eng so loss is a good alternative. I don't think allied would work here though... Thanks anyway:) |
