[English-Norwegian sub-par] |
Can anyone tell me what sub-par is in norwegian, or just explain it in english? Full sentence: His commanding officers considered him to be a sub-par soldier: he slept while on duty, had little regard for regulations and showed no skill as a marksman. THANKS! Reply #1 From: frekky Date: 06/05/2007-12:33 sub-par is another word for serial-killer Reply #2 From: corndogs Date: 06/05/2007-18:01 It basically means inferior, or doesn't meet standards or expectations Reply #3 From: Richard Date: 08/05/2007-23:01 I dunno where that guy got serial killer from... i very much doubt that is correct. sub-par is not a used word but is understandable to english people if you spoke it. What you should use is under-par - which means 'not good enough'. har du forstårt det? Jeg kan skrive det på norsk hvis du vil gjerne.... Reply #4 From: corndogs Date: 09/05/2007-00:40 it has absolutely nothing to do with serial killer Reply #5 From: Lee (huxley75@hotmail.com) Date: 10/05/2007-18:10 Hei hei det betyr: sub = below/under par = level His commanding officers thought he wasn't a very good soldier, when they compared him to the other soldiers of the same rank. We would normally say "below-par", I've never heard sub-par before. You often hear above or below par when people talk about golf - it refers to the level at which someone plays compared to the established or expected standard. Jeg kan ikke forklare det paa norsk selv om jeg snakke det... Feel free to ask me anything else. I used to teach English. If you do please put ENGLISH in the subject header so I can find your email amongst the huge amount of crap I get sent. Tusen takk. |
