hacerlo no puedo)
-Even if (we do it your way it will still take too long) = Aunque (Nosotros lo
hacemos a tu manera igual tomará mucho tiempo)
-Just because (you can do it doesn’t mean I can’t) = Sólo porque (tú puedes
hacerlo no significa que yo no pueda)
-The other day (we were walking home and…) = El otro día (nosotros caminabamos a
casa y)
Another day (e.g. let’s do it on another – different – day) = Otro dí (ej.
Hagámoslo otro día)
For a long time = Durante un largo tiempo
For a few hours = Por unas cuantas horas

Forever (it’s taking forever – a long time - to finish the book) = Para siempre
(but forever en this phrase I'm not sure what it means, maybe: está tomando
"como siempre" -un largo tiempo" para terminar el libro)

Re: it’s taking "forever" to finish the book 

In this sentence "forever" is another way of saying "a VERY long time"

There are quite a few mistakes...

-Even though (I want to do it I cannot) = A pesar de que quiero hacerlo, no
puedo ; no puedo hacerlo aunque quiera
-Even if (we do it your way it will still take too long) = Incluso haciéndolo a
tu manera, llevará demasiado tiempo
- For a long time = Durante mucho tiempo
- For a few hours = Durante unas horas
- For a couple of hours = Durante un  par de horas
- Forever (it’s taking forever – a long time - to finish the book) = Este libro
es eterno ; este libro es interminable
- For hours = Durante horas
- We once thought = 
They could have been more sophisticated than we once thought: puede que fuesen
más sofisticados de lo que creíamos
CIA spying much bigger than Once Thought: la CIA espía mucho más de lo que se
pensaba
-At the start = Al principio
-In the beginning = Al principio (time)
-At the beginning =Al principio (position)
-At the end = Al final (position)
-In the end = Finalmente (time)

-After that (we went home) = Despúes ( nos fuimos a casa)
-Then (we went home) = Entonces (nos fuimos a casa)

Al terminar el día, ella había recorrido 300 millas

In castellano (Spanish from Spain) we would never say that... again, different
ways to say the same
 :-)

Por eso es tan complicado aprender el español, lo que para mí está bien por la
forma de hablar en mi país para tí no es correcto...
La diversidad de expresiones que existen para una misma frase hace que sea más
díficil para aquel que aprende español
La diversidad en el español es tanta que la verdad que si no fuera mi lengua
nativa no se si me tomaría el trabajo de aprenderlo...

Ojo, que yo no he dicho que tu español no sea correcto!!

No empecemos con ofensas personales porque no pienso entrar en este tipo de
juegos, no es este foro el lugar apropiado. 

Y normalmente, de la misma manera que yo he tenido que aprender el inglés
británico para aprobar los exámenes de las universidades de Cambridge y Oxford,
mucha gente que aprende español tendrá que estudiar el que se habla en España
para aprobar los exámenes que los acrediten convenientemente (el diploma del
Instituto Cervantes, por ejemplo). Y es que siempre es necesario tomar un tipo o
dialecto como base, sea el idioma que sea. Por ejemplo, ahora estoy estudiando
el noruego que se habla en Oslo, porque como principiante necesito tener una
referencia modelo del idioma, después ya vendrán las variantes dialectales y los
distintos modismos. 

Y te comentaré que conozco las teorías de un reputado lingüista llamado
Guillermo Rojo al respecto de las variedades lingüísticas y de los conceptos de
lengua, lenguaje y dialecto. El enlace que me has enviado no me dice nada que yo
ya no supiera. Y con lo que estoy totalmente de acuerdo, por cierto. Además, los
lingüístas y los sociolingüístas difieren notablemente en cuanto al concepto de
corrección de la lengua, pero eso es otro asunto y no procede aquí y ahora.

Por otra parte, te comentaré que mi lengua materna no es el castellano, sino el
gallego (muy parecido al portugués, ya que hace siglos fueron el mismo idioma).

interesa ese juego rídiculo...
Y no creo que hayas dicho que mi español es incorrecto.

Sólo fue un comentario de porque esas expreiones diferentes en un mismo idioma.

Con respecto a la página sólo me pareció interesante. Como no sé quién eres
obviamente no sé que conocimientos tienes...

Nuevamente, mis disculpas si en algún punto te sentistes agredida...

Se trata de aprender, y de hecho agradecí tus correccione con respecto a la
grámatica, y le sugerí al/la consultante que tomará tu traducción (ya que creo
que es la más correcta)

Bueno, creo que entre los dos le hemos echado una mano a Lee y resuelto sus
dudas, que de eso se trataba. Además, se lleva un extra de modismos y variantes
