hi, i was wondering if anyone could translate for me the word "redningskoite" and more importantly, "skoite". we have a small sailboat and want to name it skoite, which we thought meant boat but we cant find it in any dictionarys. any help on skoite would be much appreciated. thanks. skoal. sila
The word is skøyte with the Norwegian letter ø! :-)
The meaning of "redningsskøyte" is lifeboat. A specially constructed boat launched from land to rescue those in distress at sea.
The term you are looking for is "rescue boat". Rescue in the U.S. is performed by the Coast Guard.
